READING WONDERS© G3

Monday and Wednesday

9:30am to 10:45am

This class will use a well-known suite of materials that embrace current trends in reading instruction intended for native-level Grade 3 students.  It ideal for young readers who have already attained competency in phonics and a high beginner level of vocabulary and grammar knowledge. Students will read a variety of high interest texts from the fiction and non-fiction genres. Class instruction will focus on the development of reading comprehension and fluency to include: background building activities, reading strategies and skills, word-building skills, and advanced phonics.  Class activities will include class discussions, close reading of texts, instruction and review of skills-building exercises.

Recommended Lexile level: 510 to 810

Age: 7 to 10 years old

READING WONDERS© G5

Tuesday and Thursday, 10:00am to 11:15am

This class will use a well-known suite of materials that embrace current trends in reading instruction intended for native-level Grade 5 students.  Students will read a variety of high interest texts from the fiction and non-fiction genres with a high intermediate level of complexity and advanced vocabulary.   Class instruction will focus on the development of advanced reading comprehension and fluency to include: background building activities, reading strategies and skills, word-building skills.  Class activities will include class discussions, instruction, and review of skills-building exercises.

Recommended Lexile level: 820 to 1030

Age: 10 to 14 years old

TOEFL©  IBT - WRITING

Monday and Wednesday

8:00pm to 9:15pm

This class will focus on the writing section of the TOEFL iBT test to include the independent and integrated tasks. Students will be taught to respond to question types using three main test criteria – development, organization and language use. Additional topics will include identifying main ideas and key points, notetaking, and academic listening. In addition to language skills, students will improve their ability to analyze and compare passages in both written and spoken formats.  At the end of the session, students will submit a portfolio of practice writing responses for each question type which will be evaluated using TOEFL© criteria and marking. A personalized plan for future improvement will also be provided.

Recommended Age: 12 to 18 years old
